It shows how Islamic exremism works in Pakistan. Hope pseudo secular politicians of India will learn from it and stop appeasing the Islamic radical mullahs who are interested in pushing an Islamic agenda in India and who would India to become another Islamic republic.
It also shows the true color of Pervez Musharraf whose actions don’t match with his words. His speeches in U.N, his speeches in NAM in cuba, his policies with India need to be carefully scrutinized by the Government of India before any peace initiative is started with Pakistani Government.

Guys,

This is all because of “Hudood ordinance” as given by Quran and thus this “Zina” law. This is barbarious. If someone of you can get hold of ” Price of Honor” by Jan Goodwin, please read it once. You will come to know a clearer and bigger picture of it.

There might be things happening all over the world something like this or similar to this. But, most of them, 99%, are because of ignorance. But, what happens in the middle east from Pakistan to Lebanon….”The Mass Happenings”…is practised not of ignorance. That is the way they have moulded their religious system, to keep the whole system under the control of a male person. Allah or “Prophet Mohammed” knows the better reason for it…..the better reason for “Hudood Ordinance” mentioned in Quran.

Guys, the main reason is ignorance. Nothing to do with Muslim religion. Same exists in our Hindu religion. This is only incident which got publicity (for greater good).
Our religion also suffers from many bad things like caste system. But the good thing is that we are changing. Our govt imposed regulations not to allow these. About Sati, it was banned some 100 years ago? yearly 1-2 cases happens but they receive wide spread publicity and people (sons/daughters/villagers who assist) will be jailed very very soon.

But to be fair, there are more male dominance laws in Islam than Hinduism. And no-one can change them as Islam is not allowed to change (might interpretation of male dominant society, I might be wrong). Unlike Islam, Hinduism has changed atleast some of the bad things. I am not an anti Islam person, I equally respect all the religions.

I agree with your point that this should not be taken for religon. But your statement is utter stupid and full of ignorance. You consider Islam to be god of religon and despise other religions saying they are man made.(dont say u don’t u r statement clearly reflects that)

You dont have that broader sense of religions but have narrower sense of your religion. First understand that Islam was also man-made. Infact all religions are man made to socialize. All religois books are made by Man (Human being same like us). I bet if David Blaine go back to 2nd century and do some tricks and teaches some beliefs we would have some new “Blaine” religion now.

And about your points, I agree with untoucability which is a bad thing which is banned and strictly enforced ( at least in cities u will not find this) But Sati? who told u about this. Sati’s are dealt hundred times more severely than untoucabiliy of anything even murder. The entire distrcit administration goes after the people who assisted or instigated. Fewer than 2-3 cases register each other as one mentioned above.

Love your religion but respect other religions. Blind addiction to once religions & disrespect for other religions leads to terrorist activities on the name of God.

And finally it’s no fashion to comment on religion but the current world events shapes one’s opinions….

It is only because of the international media in pakistan, that we find out about this stuff. international media usually portrays south-asia as a trash. I am in the US, and all they show about india is the poverty, which is completely not true.

what we need to learn from this situation, is that we have to accept the facts that rapes happen everyday in india(not only in villages, but in the capital of the country too). and if they don’t stop, then once the international media comes inside of india. then they will take out a 1000’s of news to show india as a bad country.

Your statement explains why we are posting these. To add your statement, this incident highlights the problems in our society (lack of education, oppression etc). We agree that these things happen everywhere. Even our Capital city is not safe. But this was one such event which gained international outcry. This indirectly helped to bring charity money which is being spent on education so that future generation doesn’t suffer what Mukhthar Mai suffered. These kind of postings raise awareness at least to some extent. We have a policy to post socio-economic-political videos/debates from time to time (not always movies, songs ).

Rape is always an inhuman irrespective of who has done it, muslim, hindu or christian. And no religion approves it.

Also, rape happens among educated society as well, check any of the western news papers or search the data on google.

Rape is just an ANIMAL instint, inhuman and worst act against humanity.

Now tell me, many times while going through headlines of our country’s newspapers, New Delhi is termed as RAPE CAPITAL, there were so many rape cases happenned and have been happenning in and around New Delhi.

To Antony, why do you feel pity if you see an educated women in HIJAB in USA? Do you feel pity when you see the NUNs in a similar dress like BURKHA? Do you dare to tease and have a wrong look at your NUNs? The answer is plain NO. (I am sure about your answer).

So, all HIJAB (Burkha) clad women are like NUNs, but they have got right to get married. But NUNs are deprived of getting married.

I hope you understand the importance of HIJAB (BURKHA).

No one can blame the religion. What Antony has written is rubbish. Is rape not committed by any christian or a Hindu? It is a shameful act and takes place everywhere. Quran says marry multiple women- but it holds a lot of meaning. Islam encourages men to marry disabled, poor, widows and other helpless women. There are a few men who take advantage of the same and use it to their benefit. An act is an act- no matter it is committed by an Hindu, Christian or an Muslim.

Though not a Muslim nor a Pakistani, I strongly resent this incident being used to critizise the entire nation (Pakistan) and religion (Islam).

I have, among my friends muslims, from all over the world, and some of them Pakistanis too. I have felt the joy of being a true muslim from them and nothing about their way of practising the religion is any different from the way I practise mine. We share the same love for god and look about & cultivate good in others.

It would be wise to refrain from labeling the whole country and religion for singular acts, no matter how horrific these acts may be.

It is but human nature to show all the shades, ranging from the godly to the most heinous. Lets us not apply these faults of humans to a whole religion or nation.

The oldest religion is ’sanatan’ or ‘hinduism’ (dates back to so what are you guys talking about? I agree that, Kuran might be untouched by humans and that it is same but so is the case with other holy books. But in hinduism there are lots of books and release in many languages to reach wide sprectrum of people. Whats wrong in that? And changing for good is always appreciated, not sticking to old traditions which dont have any ground in today’s world.

Most of the time every issue is dragged to a problem in a religion then it takes up the form of an ugly debate between two groups.

Whether we accept it or not feudalism has been part of every culture and that has always coloured the interpretation of the religion. Whosoever is in power or has dominance can create the interpretation and everyone else would follow.

Women have been subjugated and are still being with varied intensity in every culture. The reason has been their lack of education and fear of raising their voices for the act of domination. Whenever it has been excessive to tolerate the humiliation only then voices have been heard. And,that has made the difference.

Because of few brave and sensible women every culture/religion has been forced to be reinterpreted.
It has happened in America, India, Europe and is still happening. Go back and search google for women’s sufferage 1919-1920 in America.

I have seen India very closely and know women who have used whatever resources they have and got society’s attention to the eternal bias. Just because few girls or women work in IT industry and call centres doesn’t make India modern and doesn’t define those women as modern.

If you want to see a modern woman you should go to a village in Rajasthan (the so called fiercly patriarchal society) where a woman is ’surpanch’ and has completely redefined the way policies are made and implemented and brought a change in the village.She has given a new definition to the womanhood. I know umpteen examples like this and most of those in person.

Modernity is more to do with taking ownership of your own life , taking your own decisions and bearing the repercussions of those decisions. Than it has to do with the superficial definitions of clothes and jobs. And, by that standard most women in India also are way behind to attain that. They might work in the MNC but their lives will be guided by someone else.

These issues against women are partly (if at all) related to religion but mostly to the way we have let our societies to be. And, we women are equally responsible for that. We let someone else make the law which are our concern. Small small things where we didn’t raise our voices have resulted in heinous crimes against women.

I beg to everyone to not to taint everything as a flaw in religion. We should always take into account the limitation of human interpretation. Let not the bigger issue go unaddressed.

I never write to these forums but I am very sensitized to these issues and it pains me if it takes a form of debate with each side trying to win the case. I learnt a very beautiful interpretation of womanhood from a muslim girl and my close friend who died because of these similar ills in the society.

I have always raised my voice and gone through pains for these issues. Because things are not easy.Women are discouraged in the most shameful fashion in India. But, if we get discouraged, those things would be repeated with you or some other women. I am constantly in search for more effective ways to do that. And surprisingly it has always been women to stop me to speak up. The most effective way till date is to women to change their mindset.

Why do they get embarrased if a poilce person abuses them in the filthiest of the language? for example. These kind of vulgarities happens everywhere.But, the culprit are the women who let it go and sit quietly.

hi all,
after seeing this any human being can react with pity. but women is to b respected n not to pity her.no religion no law and no country can protecte her except herself. the solution for all kinds of sexual abuse lies in women herself.

Now coming to muslims commenting on the issue, here is what I want to say.

Why don’t any one issues any fatwa or wage jihad to fight these kind of atrocities. Muslims have waged jihad on a cartoon, scores of muslims have been killed in riots, embassies attacked, this is least to say. Instead of commenting on others’ comments, why don’t you do what I mentioned above. Now don’t tell me you can’t issue a fatwa against a muslim or wage jihad against a muslim. Do it if you can, I know no muslim would dare to. You want to know why, wait until I see any counter comments on my comments.

Now coming to others commenting, this is what I want to say.

Why do you people see this as a muslim issue. It’s got to do with the life of a defenceless human being that too a woman. So, please don’t give a muslim dimension to this issue, or else, it will lose it’s importance.

Though I’m not a musmim, I respect it on it’s face value. Infact every religion is born out with good intensions. It’s only our interpretaion that varies and un-willingness to change according to times will undermine the credibilty of any religion.

We should also highlight those so that people should realise what is happening in society and should come out to stop those. I have seen that most pakistanis blindly follow thier religion. They don’t accept that religion is man made. Someone made some idiotic rules and they follow them. If they are so impacted by their religion they need to change islam. I agree that there are some good points in Islam but many of the things that come out of islam are wiered such masskilling of couple who committ felony, public flogging of woman and enequal status for woman.I know that Muslims will deny this but it is true. Fact is Fact. Islam provoks aggression and it doesn’t need any proof.
Now muslims will say that other religion also promote wrong things such untouchability or unequality. But it needs to be understood that these things doesn’t prevail today making it clear that all other religion doesn’t tolerate these wrong things.
Islam is the only religion that promots hatered towards other religion only for the mean sake of making itself more important.
